im doing a geography assignemnt and trying to find out some impacts of housing development on natural ecosystems, and im trying to find possible problems with water health that could affect the wildlife. eek!For water wildlife, what are some hazards in the water, chemically? (as in high acidity, salt or ph levels etc?
Another common hazard from human activity is run off containing fertilizer and sewage. Both of these are great for algea and plant growth but, unfortuantely, the algea grow so rapidly that they consume all the oxygen that is dissolved in the water. That means there is no oxygen for fish to ';breathe'; when they swim thru the water and they die. In addition, the lack of oxygen allows anaerobic bacteria to thrive and they cause other problems. Research ';fish kills'; and you'll probably find reports of this from all over the world.
