Effect of Nuclear Waste/ dumping on the Wildlife?

I just wanted to know if someone could give me some examples of the effects of Nuclear waste on the environment. I live in an area close to a power plant and this plant is right by the water/protected area.Effect of Nuclear Waste/ dumping on the Wildlife?
You probably need to look up what the nuclear tests of the '40s and '50s did to the various testing grounds -- sites in the US west, Woomera in Australia, anything you can find out about Russia, etc.





Later on, there were the French, testing on remote tropical islands in the southern Pacific; and China, India, and Israel are all nuclear nations now -- so where was their testing done?





The likely effects of nuclear waste on the environment is exactly why nuclear waste disposal is such a hot political topic, and has led to things like plans to bury such wastes 2 miles under the earth; and things like ships, loaded with nuclear-waste cargoes, being refused docking-and-unloading privileges all over the world, travelling for months and years while their owners try to organize something.
